The Coach Kam Method was developed in 2014. While teaching a SAT workshop, a parent commented that Coach Kam's teaching methods reached her son in a way no one other than his football coach could get through to him. This led to a huge a-ha moment for Kami.
Over the next nine months, Kami continued to tutor her students while developing her test-taking program. She wanted it to mimic an elite training program for athletes. The end result is what is now known as the Coach Kam Method. Each Coach Kam workshop is six weeks long, and they are designed to end a week out from exam day so the principles and strategies are still fresh for the students. Over the six week course, students are encouraged to push their limits with weekly sessions, daily training exercises, and a playbook for test day. |
What Makes Us Different?
While a student at UCLA, Kami was fortunate to be exposed to the teachings of the legendary basketball coach, John Wooden. Her favorite quote of Coach Wooden's is: “Success comes from knowing that you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming." This is the guiding principle of the Koach Kam's method. The goal is to coach each student to reach their greatest potential.
Team Preparation
“Never try to be better than someone else. Learn from others, and try to be the best you can be.”
- John Wooden Coach Kam’s workshops are designed for students to learn not only from the instructors but also from their peers. We purposely limit our class sizes to twelve students to provide one-on-one training and create an environment where students can interact and glean knowledge from each other. Our research shows that students learn better in small collaborative environments. |
_Foundation Building
“Little things make the big things happen.”
- John Wooden In each workshop, the first week is spent refreshing the basics of math, writing, and reading to make sure students have a solid test taking foundation. As the weeks progress, the sessions build on each other and cover more advanced techniques. Every week students receive weekly homework assignments to help them study and retain the materials covered during Coach Kam sessions. |
Test Day Confidence
“Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.”
- John Wooden Students often experience test anxiety because they feel they aren’t prepared enough to succeed. We focus on the guiding principles of the test, therefore adequately preparing students to answer questions correctly. Ultimately, this helps to boost students’ confidence and encourage them to rely on their natural abilities to do well on the test. |
